Harold Sakuishi nació el 16 de marzo de 1969. Es fan del rock anglosajón independiente de los años 60 y 70, de Jimi Hendrix, y de las guitarras. Acabó haciendo un manga sobre rock cuando ya llevaba 10 años de carrera profesional. Sakuishi siempre ha sido un hombre fiel a su editorial, Kôdansha. Su promera serie, Gorillaman, que empezó en 1989 se publicó en 19 volumenes. Después de dos mangas, Bakaichi (1995) y Stopper Busujima (1996), finalmente empezó a publicar Beck en 1999.
